The People Around You….a humorous take (Part III)

Hey reader!

This is the last part of the series of ‘The People Around You’. I am sure the previous 2 parts would have given you the idea of how this post will progress. Apparently, I believe there isn’t much left to say for an introduction to our characters, so let’s just begin…

But surely there is one point to communicate that these characters are fictitious and are created only for reading and entertainment purposes.

The success-o-meter. There are several kinds of meters-ammeters, voltmeters, speedometers (these are used for measuring current, voltage, speed of a vehicle) but in the human race, we have a special category of walking and talking meters. These are the success-o-meters, who will always ask you about your work, your progress and remind you that no matter how much you achieve, you can never satisfy them. I had come across a note in Reader’s Digest that talked about a mother looking at a toy for her child and asked the salesman about one toy which seemed to be very complicated to her. To this the salesman replied that the toy was designed to prepare the children for life in today’s world. Anyway one puts the toy together was wrong. These are those kinds of people.

The insomniacs. Insomnia, as we know, is a sleeping disorder in which one faces difficulty to sleep. Thus, the insomniacs I wouldn’t say exactly suffer from this disorder (for here we talk about the general humorous characteristics of people), but their sleep is a seldom visitor to them. They might relax but not sleep. Actually, ‘the low mood; all work, no play; dull kind’, I described in part II, form a considerable portion of this clan of insomniacs. People generally dream in sleep; these people dream of getting sleep. The time designated in the day to relax and be free from cares, is a battle for them; trying to get sleep is their biggest bother. Sleeping may be rather challenging for them but it is imperative to get adequate sleep; thus, we should pray that sleep visits them more often.

The fidgety. Literally speaking, ‘ye log hilte bahut hain, ek jagah tik nahi sakte’. They can’t sit at one place or continue doing a task for long. Half an hour passed and they are bored. They would initiate the topic of conversation and themselves lose interest and change it. And what you can do in this? Just adapt to whatever they do or say. They would find the movie boring, the book boring, they get quite early tired while doing the work. Their mind can’t just stay at one place, and they would keep moving, keep fidgeting and keep getting impatient.

The impatiently eager. These people won’t rest until they fulfil their complete checklist of tasks. They believe to complete as much work as they can so that nothing remains in backlog. These are firm opponents of procrastination to the extent that, if possible, they would demand that the next day’s task should also be fulfilled today. If a task is supposed to be done some time in the future, and there is adequate time designated for it, what is the haste to complete it right now? Well, these people will be restless and take a breath of relief only when the work is done. And if the work is not done, they might well also turn into an ‘insomniac’. What motivates them to do everything now is that they believe that after finishing all the future tasks, they could rest at length and at once without the bother of work. But that doesn’t generally happen, for everyday brings with it some new challenges and thus the restlessness continues…

No response. No, not on message, but in face-to-face interaction. They wouldn’t bother to look at you while you speak or acknowledge your presence by nodding at regular intervals. Their fundamentals are clear: You keep speaking , I am listening. Don’t go by the non-verbal cues, they would say they are 100% in attendance. It seems as if you are interacting with the walls. Do not ever expect a dialogue; with such people, it is always a monologue. If they yawn while you speak, it isn’t an indication that they are bored, (as I said don’t go by the non-verbal cues), you just continue, it is their way of interacting, so there isn’t much for bother or interruption, is there?

The mobile phone user who is always aloof. These are basically phone addicts. Their inclination towards the virtual world is more as compared to the real world. The long time they spend on phone gets justified by the numerous apps and social networking sites that are now available. Starting from WhatsApp via Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat to Instagram, these are enough to keep them engaged for hours. And how can one forget YouTube? While the clock ticks away, they are enclosed in the 4 walls of their rooms. And of course, if nothing remains to check, one can always check out their e-mail account before bidding a final adieu to the phone so that it may charge; this is because the phone needs rest, the phone user doesn’t.

The song master. Who doesn’t love music? But the craze ought to be learnt from the masters. The song masters. Playing a song in the background while doing some tedious job tends to make it seem a bit lighter. Songs uplift our mood, in fact, our mood swings according to the nature of the song playing. But these people can’t work without some music playing. And they happen to be very learned also. Starting from the song’s history, its singer, lyricist, and anything you could think of, they would know it all. And these people try to make everyone like them, they would force you into hearing songs, whether you are interested or not, because in their opinion, everyone has a taste for music, it just needs to be discovered.

And here we finally end with our list. As I had said in the beginning that there isn’t much to introduce the post, similarly there isn’t much to say to conclude it. Though this series comes to an end here, but the list of interesting characters in  our surroundings doesn’t. There are as many unique features in the world as there are number of people.

So, keep observing the people around you and always have a humorous take on situations to take the difficulties of life in stride. For the final time, if you could relate with any of the personalities I listed above or have encountered any other such unique personalities, do share in the comments section below.
